Málaga
Forty minutes up the motorway, the city is a market of its own: villas in El Limonar and Cerrado de Calderón, houses in El Candado and apartments in Pedregalejo. The families are mostly Spanish and resident, and they hire live-out housekeepers, carers for elderly parents and nannies for the school year; we select from Madrid and present the candidates there.
Granada
Two hours along the A-92 and the map changes completely. Cádiz
Beyond Sotogrande we cover the country houses and fincas around Jerez, the villas of Tarifa and Zahara de los Atunes, and the developments of Chiclana and El Puerto de Santa María. Requests there are for English-speaking live-in housekeepers, caretaker couples for estates with horses or vineyards and seasonal staff for the summer months.
The Costa del Sol has two peaks: summer, from June to September, and Easter week, when many families open the villa for the first time in the year. That is when seasonal live-in housekeepers, cooks and nannies are most in demand, and the selection is best started in April or May so the team is ready when the family arrives.
Outside those months, demand in Marbella is steady: a large share of families live here year-round and hire permanent, not seasonal, staff.
In villas we distinguish two situations. With the principals in residence, the team runs at full pace: meals, guests, children, cars. When the family is away, the house still needs someone to look after it, air it, let contractors and suppliers in and have it ready for an arrival at short notice, which a trusted housekeeper or a live-in couple usually covers.
Some houses partly close in winter and keep only the couple or the caretaker; we take that into account when defining the contract, the hours and the dates.
Languages are part of the brief in almost every house on this coast. English is the most requested, with German, French and Russian following for families from northern and eastern Europe. The exact combination is not always out there — a live-in housekeeper with Russian and villa experience does not come along every week — and when it is not, we say so and put forward candidates with fluent English rather than dragging the search out.
